Lamborghini Urus might get Audi-sourced twin-turbo V8

The Beijing Motor Show came up with several goodies last month. One of them was the Urus concept that Lamborghini unveiled for its SUV. There weren’t too many details related to the powertrain options for Urus at that moment, though. Lamborghini Development Chief, Maurizio Reggiani has given some hints regarding the specfications of Urus if this is to enter production.

It is not surprising that Urus will be based on the platform that is used for Audi Q7, Bentley EXP 9 F, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg. Though Lamborghini has opted for carbon fiber, Urus will get a new PL73 architecture that is made principally of steel. The Italian automaker targets 4,400 lbs for the Urus in order for the weight to be kept down.

When it comes to power, Reggiani says that the decision is yet to be made. The latest SUV Lamborghini has come up with, LM002 “Rambo Lambo”, sports the V12 engine, the one that powers the Countach. If the same pattern is to be used, Urus is very likely to get the V10 from the Gallardo or the V12 from the Aventador.

However, Reggiani has suggested that the new twin-turbo V8 that powers Bentley Continental and Audi RS would be a more likely option. That’s because this one would keep the weight down providing more low-end torque than V10 or V12. As soon as we get more information about the Urus specfications, we’ll let you know about that. When one says Lamborghini, one says power. And unique body language! Well, the Italian automaker has pleasantly surprised its fans with each of with its models. Now, I’m sure there are many of you who would just love to see something new coming from Lamborghini, something that is like nothing else. Designer Mauro Lecchi had the same thing in mind and decided to use his creativity and skills to design something that’s by far mind-blowing. Have you ever imagined a boat with the Lambo body language? Mauro Lecchi has and here’s what he has come up with: a Lamborghini power-yacht.

That’s indeed something! Just take a look at the pictures below and you’ll see why we’re so excited about this spectacular transferral of the Lamborghini vehicles body language to a boat. The 50 foot monster on water makes use of carbon fiber and combines both the luxury and the speed Lamborghini is famous for.

Many of us probably remember that the release of Porsche Cayenne led to great controversy related to whether this new SUV should or should have not been released. There have been people even saying that Cayenne was a disgrace to the Porsche logo. They said that a car that would haul around families didn’t need that much power. Well, even so, Porsche Cayenne has become the carmaker’s bestselling model. Porsche has taken into account the fact that many people found Cayenne a bit too large and has decided to come up with a new smaller SUV known as Macan.

This one will come up with the typical Porsche features that include agility, lightweight and ease of handling. In addition to the most successful sporty SUV that Cayenne has become, Macan will expand the world’s most successful Porsche segment in the SUV sector delivering better performance thanks to the car weight reduction.

Initially, the car was named Cajun but then Porsche decided to change that and named it Macan which is derived from the Indonesian word for tiger. This name is just the right one for the new SUV as it combines “suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics”.

Last month we’ve heard that Porsche Macan will be powered by a new 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine that will deliver 370HP as well as 400 lb/ft of torque. There will be a standard seven-speed manual transmission and an optional seven-speed, dual-clutch PDK automatic transmission.

Porsche Macan will be produced in Leipzig starting 2013 being the fifth model in Porsche’s line-up. Porsche will also offer less powerful engines for other variants of Macan. There are at least three options when it comes to that and these include a 3.6-liter V6 engine that produces 295 HP (used for Macan S), a four-cylinder engine that will deliver 220HP and a 2.0-liter turbo diesel with 190 horsepower. It is believed that there will also be a hybrid model that will sport a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with an electric engine. This one will produce 241HP.

How Porsche engines work

Besides the great and unique design of the vehicles Porsche has come up with, there’s something that has made them outstand and we’re talking about their engines. These represent probably the best of what Porsche means. Their power and beauty make the vehicles under this brand worth of admiration. And as humans like to draw lines between all the things they use, to compare and contrast almost everything they can, it’s impossible not to make some comparisons between the different Porsche engine models. Well, we’re not going to do that but we’ll do focus on how one of these engines work.

This is the one that powers Porsche Carrera GT. Why did we choose this one? It’s rather obvious when thinking what this engine is capable of. The powerful 5.7-liter, V10, 605-horsepower engine allows the Carrera GT to sprint from 0 to 124 mph (kph) in less than 10 seconds and to reach a top speed of 205 mph (330 kph).

Everybody knows about the Lamborghini Aventador frenzy and what this supercar has come up with. Well, the car managed to catch the attention of the well-known German specialists from Wheelsandmore who decided to come up with a two stage tuning program for Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4.

If you think that Aventador is now an exclusive car, wait till you see all the new options the Wheelsandmore program includes. The first stage of this tuning program will allow Aventador to deliver 30 HP and 40 Nm of torque more than the standard version producing thus 730 HP (537 kW) and 730 Nm of torque and reaching a top speed of 217 mph, . This stage costs 3,900 Euros and is achieved via software optimisation.

Now, stage two boosts the output numbers at 777 HP (571 kW) and 760 Nm of torque and enables a top speed of 219 mph. Well, that’s quite something! The price is quite something too. Cars enthusiasts are most probably aware of the ceaseless battle between Lamborghini and Ferrari. Well, it’s no wonder why the two car brands have always compete one another.
