The Chairman of Skoda, Winfried Vahland, recently announced that the first electric car Skoda series will be launched in 2014. But, what about the model?
Obviously, Skoda officials have been reluctant to give indications on eletric range model that those interested will be able to buy in 2014. For now, Czechs have in tests an experimental electric model – Skoda Octavia Green Line E, which uses the Volkswagen Golf Blue-e-motion, scheduled for mass production since 2013.
On the other hand, Volkswagen has announced that the city’s electric Volkswagen Up! will be offered for sale in 2013 for a price considered attractive, so that many analysts believe that the first electric Skoda that we will see on the road in 2014 will be its sister, Skoda Citigo.
There are some arguments in favor of this hypothesis. Citigo electric model would benefit from a 85 kW electric motor, electrical energy will be stored in a lithium-ion battery pack of 26.5 kWh. Citigo will be much easier than the Octavia Green E Line, therefore will be possible to obtain a digital autonomy between 150 and 200 km.
Finally, the lower price of Citigo is going to be a strong argument, given that most customers assimilated Octavia with a family model, which is suitable for long roads, a goal that current technology of electric batteries can not meet for now .
So, are clear indications that Skoda will launch its first electric car before Dacia – even if recent spy photos of Renault ZOE, surprised hidden in Romania, may suggest that Dacia could have an electric range model in the near future. Remains to be seen how attractive will be the price for the first electric Skoda compared with the electric models from France.
