Finally, after a quite long period of waiting, the staff from Porsche released a number of photos and technical details about the next year’s season 911 race car.
The first differences from the previous generation of 911 are that the 911 997 GT3 RSR is wider with almost 48 mm. The power comes from inside a 6-cylinder 4.0-litre boxer unit. The boxer unit is featuring an air-restrictor that can and will provide no less that 460 horsepower, or 338 kW.
Larger front wheels are also a feature of the new 2012 Porsche GT3 RSR. The wheels are 30 mm larger in diameter, measuring a total of 680 mm). Even more the car features a sequential 6-speed gearbox that shifts through gears using the pedals placed on the sides of the steering wheel.
Improved aerodynamics was improved by revising some of the exterior parts; this includes the nose of the car and the rear panels. There has been some work done on the door sills and the wheel arch coverings.
Porsche is aiming towards participating at the Le Mans 24 hours, the Fia World Endurance Championship, the Le Mans Series, the International GT Open and the American Le Mans series. In all the races, the Porsche 911 997 GT3 RSR will be driven. The car comes out at a price of almost 500.000 Euros.
