Because the winter will arrive soon, customers started to show a bigger interest in four-wheel-drive crossovers. We decided to compare the 4×4 Kia with the facelifted VW Tiguan

It’s hard to buy a compact SUV, because there are many options on the market. The VW Tiguan arrived just in time to take advantage of this season.

In UK, snow has been predicted before the end of the month, so we decided to test the all-wheel-drive Tiguan 2.0 TDI 4MOTION in SE trim. The facelifted version was updated with a refreshed engine line-up, a wider range of optional extras, and better looks, all for L25,645. But are these enough to compete with the Kia Sportage?

The top of the range KX-3 is cheaper than the Tiguan, with a price of L24,625, and the Kia wasn’t yet beaten in an Auto Express road test. As usual, the Kia offers luxury features such as heated leather seats and cruise control as standard. Also, the seven-year warranty back-up is included.

According to the official figures, these two models are closely matched, so it will be a tight race. Until now, the Tiguan was known as the fuel-efficient compact SUV, but the Kia isn’t consuming much fuel, and its appearance gives some extra points to the Sportage.

However, will this be enough to take the honors, or will the Volkswagen be the winner?
