Volkswagen doesn’t want to enter the battle with MINI or Fiat 500. It would’ve been slightly uncomfortable the duel in this segment because it would’ve had to also attack Audi A1. And so VW continues the Beetle story in the compact segment with the second new Beetle generation.
In the case of new generations the challenge was the design. And this because Beetle, the first generation, is probably the most popular car worldwide. The slogan of the new model was “Design a new original!”. First we have to notice the fact that the word “new” disappeared from the car name. Beetle and that’s all. In terms of design the model is much more aggressive, more dynamic, with stronger lines, while keeping the same initial design theme. This is proved by the longer hood, and the more inclined windshield. Reducing the design at the essence we can say that the New Beetle was drawn from three semicircles. Now the things evolved radically. The series model took a lot from the concept car Ragster present at Detroit in 2005.

Volkswagen Beetle Interior
According to technical data, namely the size, the new model could be built on the same technical platform used at Golf VI. The new model has a width of 1.808 mm (plus 84 mm), a height of 1.486 mm (minus 12 mm) and a length of 4.278 mm(plus 152 mm) compared with the old model.
It’s admirable that the new model hadn’t taken almost anything from the new Volkswagen brand identity in design terms. Instead, the interior is pure Volkswagen, all the “flower power” air evaporated which was meant to be preserved at New Beetle.

The new model wishes to satisfy today customers and not the ones of the first model. So we will find on the list of optional features bi-xenon lights with day time running LEDs, 19 inch wheels, 12 colors. In the case of the Sport equipment the interior is has surfaces which imitate the carbon fiber. So the message is clear: a car body with a retro design but with sufficient sport features, dynamic, completed by an interior carefully studied from an ergonomic point of view and with a mechanical part improved by the top version of the 2.0 TSI engine which has 200 HP plus the XDS electronic differential. It’s offered optional an audio system developed especially by Fender (the famous instrument manufacturer) and Panasonic for Beetle.

The range of gasoline engines starts with the aggregate 1.2 TSI BlueMotion with the Start/Stop function which develops 105 HP, it allows a maximum speed of 180 km/h, and it has an average consumption of 5,5 liters. Next it’s the 1.4 TSI engine which is coupled to a DSG box with seven reports, this one develops 160 HP, which allows a maximum speed of 207 km/h and has a consumption rate of 5,9 liters. The top of the range in the engine options is the 2.0 TSI engine which develops 200 HP, allows a maximum speed of 225 km/h and has an average consumption of 7,4 liters. The diesel engines offer it’s based on the aggregate 1.6 TDI BlueMotion which develops 105 HP, emits 112 g/km CO2 and an average fuel consumption of 4,3 liters. The top diesel engine option is the already known 2.0 TDI which develops 140 HP and 320 Nm.
