Skoda’s compact crossover, the Yeti, is being showered with yet ore praise. Long an Autocar favorite, this spacious, refined and usable family car scooped another gong in the national press last week. But did you know that you can save thousands by buying a used one?

This week we’ve found two exemples of this excellent soft-roader, the latter of which, at just 18 months old, is on offer for 5k GBP less than a new one.

The cheapest of the pair is an entry-level 1.2 TSI S model. With only two-wheel drive and close to 12,000 miles on the clock, it’s seen some use inits year of life so far. It’s on offer with The Car People of Sheffield for just 12,499 GBP. Looks great in Corrida Red, too. Call 0844 8638888.

Want more power? Try a 158bhp 1.8 TSI of the same age, like the 59-plate metallic blue example we found for sale privately. With just 5000 miles showing, it’s got manufacturer warranty until October 2012, while its spec features four-wheel drive, climate and cruise control, and parking sensors. Yours for 15,495 GBP; call 01276 505217.

Why so cheap? Because both are the less sought-after petrol models. As long as you don’t mind paying a bit more for your tax disc and visiting the pump a little more often, you can save a lot up front by opting for petrol.
